ALIA Research Grant Awards
ALIA supports research in the profession through the ALIA Research Grant Awards. The ALIA Research Grant Award provides opportunities for professional members to undertake research projects that they would otherwise be unable to do because of the time and costs involved. ALIA plays a critical role in nurturing the advancement of the profession by fostering and supporting research activities to ensure ongoing excellence in the delivery of Library and Information Science.
Emerald Research Awards
Emerald has pledged to use a proportion of the fees received from copyright organizations to fund research relating to the dissemination of knowledge for social good, with a specific orientation towards benefit for the developing world.
Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) Research Projects
Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) provides grants to scholars to conduct research in various fields of social sciences which have a theoretical, conceptual, methodological or policy orientation on the subject of their choice. The research projects may belong to any one of the following social science disciplines or may be interdisciplinary in nature: the recognized disciplines / category are:
- Economics / Commerce / Management / Business Administration;
- Sociology and Social Anthropology / Social Work / Demography / Gender Studies;
- Political Science / International Relations / Geography / Public Administration;
- Psychology / Education /Criminology;
- Other-Linguistics / legal Studies / National Security Studies etc.
National Science & Technology Management Information System (NSTMIS), Department of Science and Technology (DST)
The Scientific and Technological (S&T) activities play a vital role in the economic, social and physical development of a country. Scientific and technological research needs huge investments and calls for a judicious utilization of scarce resources like finance, trained manpower, raw materials etc. Data collection and analysis pertaining to resources, devoted to S&T, therefore, assumes significant importance. The growth of S&T, its performance and impact on society and economy are indicators to assess the effectiveness of planning and policy formulation.
The National Science and Technology Management Information System (NSTMIS), a division of Department of Science and Technology (DST) has been entrusted with the task of building the information base on a continuous basis on resources devoted to scientific and technological activities for policy planning in the country.
OCLC/ALISE Library & Information Science Research Grant Program (LISRGP)
Recognizing the importance of research to the advancement of librarianship and information science, OCLC Research and ALISE, the Association for Library and Information Science Education, annually collaborate to offer the Library and Information Science Research Grant Program.
The overall goal is to promote independent research, particularly work helping to integrate new technologies that offer innovative approaches, and research that contributes to a better understanding of the information environment and user expectations and behaviors.
University Grants Commission (UGC) Research Project for Teachers
The University Grants Commission strives to promote teaching and research in emerging areas in Humanities, Social Sciences, Languages, Literature, Pure sciences, Engineering & Technology, Pharmacy, Medical and Agricultural Sciences etc. The emphasis would be supporting such areas that cut across disciplines and subjects such as health, gerontology, environment, biotechnology, nanotechnology, stress management, WTO and its impact on economy, history of science, Asian philosophy and many other areas as would be identified by subject experts. There are disciplines such as defence and strategic studies which include national security affairs, insurance and banking, economics and world trade which in a true sense are multidisciplinary in nature, cutting across disciplines of sciences, humanities and social sciences, and are of importance in a rapidly changing global scenario. These and allied disciplines need to be studied and researched in a more organized manner. Institutionalization of such activities is a need of the present times.
The universities have been the centres of research. Although, the Government has a network of science and technology laboratories for research and development, the major base of researchers in science and technology remains with t he universities and colleges. Hence, university and college teachers need to be supported to meet their requirements for individual research in specialized areas. To promote excellence in research in higher education by supporting research programmes of University and College teachers in various disciplines.
